GBM Pregnancy Massage using Creative Healing

  • What is Creative Healing?

Dr Gowri Motha introduced Joseph B Stephenson’s Creative Healing into the Gentle Birth Method programme due to its success in clearing the body of congestion and optimising physiological function. There is a great need for the joints and muscles of the lower back, sacrum and coccyx to be functionally mobile and clear from congestion if a mother is to have a gentle birth and Creative Healing can transform these areas.

However, since birth is a function of the whole body, treatments for organs that are important to maintain optimum health - liver, kidneys, heart, pancreas, gut - are included at specific times during pregnancy.

  • What to Expect During a Session

Sessions are deeply calming and restorative. Virgin olive oil is generally used, although sometimes Dr Marie Gowri Motha’s Aromatherapy Oils are used.

Your bare back and tummy will be worked on, so you need to take off your upper body garments. A towel will be provided for you to cover your front. You will also need to tie up your hair.

The treatment starts with having the ‘sitting-up’ treatments. Followed by those lying down (you will be made comfortable using cushions or pillows).

Your Practitioner normally tells you what treatments that they are doing and why. They may also suggest having some self-hypnosis at the same time. The choice of whether you would like the Practitioner to talk to you during your session or would prefer silence is up to you. Please just tell your Practitioner what you would like that day.

After the treatment, the excess oil will be removed as much as possible, using tissue and you can get dressed. (You may like to wear older clothes due to the oil in case some is left on your skin)

Specific Creative Healing Treatments

  • Sacrum Drainage & Sacroiliac Joint Release

Promotes pelvic flexibility and reduces congestion around the sacroiliac joints. This treatment is often given late in pregnancy to:

Aid baby’s descent into the pelvis

    Ease constipation

Reduce the second stage of labour (pushing time)

  • General Lymphatic Drainage

A core element of Creative Healing, this treatment stimulates drainage in the upper and middle back and pelvic region, releasing retained fluid and easing pressure. Pelvic lymphatic drainage in particular creates more space within the pelvis, aiding the baby’s descent and positioning for birth.

  • Pancreatic Treatment

Offered typically between 32–36 weeks, this treatment promotes healthy digestive enzyme production and supports balanced blood sugar, helping to prevent gestational diabetes and alleviate symptoms like nausea, bloating, and constipation.

  • Abdominal Toning

This treatment supports digestion and nutrient absorption, which are vital for the mother’s energy and the baby’s development. It can relieve bloating and help maintain a strong, nourished gut throughout pregnancy.

  • Liver Treatment

Effective in addressing nausea and morning sickness, this technique supports liver detoxification, especially useful when pregnancy-related hormone shifts slow the liver’s natural processing capacity.

  • Heart Treatment

Given in early pregnancy and again before labour, this treatment supports the increased circulatory demands of pregnancy and helps regulate emotional wellbeing, easing anxiety, overwhelm, or fear.

  • Back and Spine Alignment

Alleviates pregnancy-related back pain and supports posture. May also include a neck treatment if needed, to enhance nervous system alignment.

  • Sciatic Treatment

Targets sciatic nerve tension and the classic symptoms of sciatica, including lower back pain, hip tightness, and shooting leg pain.

  • Thyroid Treatment

Supports energy balance and metabolic function, particularly helpful if fatigue has set in during the second or third trimester.

  • Hiatus Hernia Treatment

Provides relief from nausea or discomfort by reducing upward pressure in the digestive tract.

  • Kidney Treatment

Encourages efficient excretion of fluids and helps reduce water retention, swelling, and puffiness.

  • Spleen Treatment

Boosts immune function and supports overall vitality.
