Post Natal Closing Ceremony

  • What is the Closing Ceremony?

The Gentle Birth Method (GBM) Closing Ceremony is a sacred postnatal ritual designed to honour and support the mother’s physical, emotional, and energetic transition after childbirth.

Rooted in ancient postpartum traditions from around the world, and thoughtfully adapted by Dr Gowri Motha, this ceremony supports mothers in integrating their birth experience, restoring equilibrium, and reconnecting with their inner strength. It is both therapeutic and symbolic, a moment of pause, reflection, and healing during the early postnatal period.

  • When to Have the Ceremony

The Closing Ceremony can be offered any time after 6 weeks postpartum , once the body has completed its initial healing phase. Some mothers choose to have it soon after this point to support emotional grounding, while others prefer to wait until later in their postnatal journey.

    It is suitable for:

    • Mothers who had a vaginal birth or caesarean birth

    • First‑time mothers or those with multiple children

    • Anyone seeking emotional integration, physical restoration, or a sense of closure after birth

The ceremony meets you exactly where you are in your recovery and motherhood journey.

  • What to Expect During a Session

Your practitioner will create a peaceful, private environment in your home, allowing you to relax fully and feel supported throughout the ceremony.

During the session you may experience:

    • A full‑body massage using Creative Healing techniques and warm herbal compresses

    • A gentle herbal body scrub to refresh and revitalise the skin

    • A floral or herbal bath (or warm shower) if you have the facilities

      • Optional vaginal fumigation for detoxification and toning

    • A supportive tummy wrap to encourage abdominal and womb recovery

    • The session takes place in your own home so it can be calm and private space.

    • It can be personalised, and your partner and baby can join you for the final floral and herbal bath.

    • You may wish to take photographs to remember this special moment.

Many mothers find it profoundly healing, both physically and emotionally.

  • How the Closing Ceremony Works

The ceremony combines therapeutic massage, herbal applications, abdominal wrapping, and intentional energy work. It is designed to "seal" the body after the expansive experience of birth, restoring a sense of balance, containment, and deep nurturing.

    Key elements include:

    • Creative Healing massage to release tension and support circulation

    • Warm herbal compresses to soothe and nourish the tissues

    • Abdominal wrapping to support the womb and core muscles

    • Energy‑balancing techniques that promote grounding and emotional clarity

Each step is performed slowly and mindfully, creating a deeply calming and restorative experience.

  • What Can the Closing Ceremony Help With?

The Closing Ceremony offers benefits that extend beyond the physical body, supporting emotional wellbeing and the transition into motherhood.

    It can help with:

    • Re‑establishing emotional balance after birth

    • Feeling physically and energetically “put back together”

    • Honouring your birth story and acknowledging your strength

    • Entering the next phase of motherhood with clarity and confidence

    • Creating a sense of closure and a new beginning

For many mothers, this ceremony becomes one of the most memorable and healing parts of their postnatal journey.
